The 2009 Mid-South Workshop will feature a solo competition with high school and collegiate divisions. In addition to a cash prize, the winner of the high school competition will be offered the opportunity to perform on a masterclass with Geof Winter of the American Horn Quartet. The collegiate division winner will perform with the University of Memphis Wind Ensemble on the workshop's final concert on Sunday afternoon.
High School DivisionRepertoire Select one of the following: Mozart: Concerto No. 3, K.447, mvt. 1 Franz Strauss: Nocturne Richard Strauss: Concerto No. 1, mvt. 1 Bernhard Heiden: Sonata, mvt. 1
Eligibility Entrants must be currently enrolled in high school (grades 9-12) or home schooled and younger than 19 years of age as of March 20, 2009. All contestants will perform one piece from the indicated repertoire with piano. An accompanist will be provided at no extra charge for those contestants who are unable to bring their own. Please indicate on the registration form if a workshop accompanist is needed and if so, which piece you will play. Rehearsals will be scheduled on Friday afternoon.
Soloists may perform sitting or standing. Contestants are not required to perform from memory, but those utilizing printed music must perform from a legal copy of the piece. Photocopies will not be allowed on stage.

Eligibility Entrants must be currently enrolled at a college, university or conservatory as undergraduate or graduate students. The first round repertoire is unaccompanied. The final round must be performed with an accompanist. A pianist will be provided for those unable to bring their own. Please indicate on the registration form if you will need a workshop pianist.

The winner will perform Dukas' Villanelle with the University of Memphis Wind Ensemble on the final concert Sunday afternoon. Dress rehearsal will be at 5:00 PM Saturday.
